Just before dusk. When the light purplish. The shadows stand out. They come home from work. They smile. Sometimes they open a beer. Shortly after dawn. When the morning reinventing color. That light floods everything. Even people. It seems to pierce the soul. They all appear larger. And a little extraordinary. They are there, similar and different at the same times, from one end of America to another. They say the intimacy of this vast country. for a moment everything is clear, distinct.
I left the U.S. just before the election of Barack Obama, with the intention of photographing America, Americans. Nothing more. No story to tell, no script or synopsis. Far from the report is a photographic work. I work for does not enclose my photograph in a subject. The work is done with a camera. Time necessary to achieve each image is paramount. It allows the meeting, people or landscape. This time allows me to communicate the mental image and the other, that's etched in my room. I shoot early morning or late afternoon. It is this special light that I follow, that guides me, it is the engine of this trip.
